I will admit I got a few domain names appraised in some domain forums when got into the business but I quickly learned my lesson and what I learned was that most not all appraisals were negative drive by valuations with the intent to purposely destroy any profitable selling potential. What I mean by this is that people which may possibly be interested in one of the domain names you got appraised in the forums will probably search Google or other search engines to see if it is for sale or if anything was said about it and you can be sure that the forum appraisal will be among the top results in the search engines especially if it isn’t developed and this will discourage investors and hurt any chances of getting a decent price for your domain name and the people making these negative ridiculous appraisals know this and it’s too bad that they don’t even realize how much they are affecting this business overall including their own domain portfolios.

So, if you are thinking of getting your domain or domains appraised in a forum know that you may face some really bad advice and valuations that could discourage you and any potential buyers. You are better off paying for a professional appraisal from sites like Afternic, Sedo, and Estbot. For example I own ikix.com and I did ask for an appraisal in one of the forums and most appraisals were very very low and discouraging to read so after that I decided to have it appraised through Afternic and once I got my professional appraisal back I was surprised at the difference and from then on I decided to pay for appraisals instead of go through the disappointment of poorly executed valuations. Also note ikix.com was professionally appraised back in 2005 when 4 character domain names weren’t worth even close to what they are today.

Newbies to the domain business I strongly advise you not to get an appraisal from any forum but it is okay to ask for advice and that is what people should utilize online forums for. Don’t get me wrong some people do register some pretty bad domain names and need to be educated but appraisals especially nowadays are destructive and discourage good people from this business.

We also have more fuel then our Government is letting on, plus we have a friendly neighbor Canada that wants to build a pipe line to America which will also provide tons of good jobs.
